Nate Smith Opens Up About Pressure Of Social Media On Music Artists
Nate Smith was one of the new crop of artists to find fame through social media. Many people found short-lived fame during the 2020-2021 COVID pandemic when everyone was stuck home with nothing to do but browse social media.
A clip of the singer performing his song “Wildfire” received over 3 million views in 2020. He has yet to be able to repeat that success. He has a new album coming out next month but is apparently getting pushback from his label to create a viral moment.
Nate Smith took to his Instagram to share a statement about the pressures of social media. He wrote, “I don’t think people realize the amount of pressure us artists face. Why isn’t my reel viral? Why didn’t my last release get 7.5 million streams like my first release. Why does this up and comer suddenly have double the amount of followers I do?.”
The country singer added that it is a “constant grind” to make content go viral on social media. Nate Smith said the industry shouldn’t be about social media. “It should be about the music and only the music.”
“I am absolutely exhausted trying to be cool,” the singer confessed.

Nate Smith’s vent about the pressures of social media was something many other artists could relate to. Carly Pearce dropped the comment, “Say it louder for the people in the back!” Bailey Zimmerman wrote, “Nate you’re the coolest… you ain’t gotta try brother… it comes natural!!!”

An example of a singer who gained overnight fame only to going back to being unknown is Oliver Anthony, who went viral last summer with “Rich Men North Of Richmond.”
Musician Elvie Shane took to the comments of Nate Smith’s post to share their own story of the aftermath of going viral.
“I took 6 months off to clean up and get my head right directly after “My Boy” went number one. Was very open about that thru the process. Been grinding back from the bottom since. 2 Years! Cant go to radio cause we’re not streaming 2 Million a week or socials aren’t performing or some other BS…”
