Machine Gun Kelly & Jelly Roll Win People’s Choice Country Award

Machine Gun Kelly and Jelly Roll collaborated on the 2024 hit song “Lonely Road.” The popular song was up against the Zach Bryan/John Mayer song “Better Days” and Morgan Wallen’s “I Had Some Help” collab with Post Malone for a People’s Choice Country Award.

Jelly couldn’t attend the ceremony in Nashville this week because of a concert in Boston. However, MGK attended and accepted the award on Jelly Roll’s behalf. His speech referenced a long ago feud between the two artists.

“We went from 10 years ago hating each other to elevating each other. Comparison is the thief of joy. There is enough room on the couch for everybody. We found camaraderie in the chaos.”

Machine Gun Kelly also gave Jelly Roll a shout-out for his success. “Last year, I was right there, sitting in that seat, watching my boy rock on that stage. And I was like, ‘Man, I hope one day we’re up there.’ And we’re here!”

How did the two go from hating each other to collaborating on a hit song?

Reason Behind Feud With MGK

In addition to his powerhouse voice, Jelly Roll is known for his work with prison reform and heartfelt interactions with his fans. So, it may come as a surprise to find out that he once had a bitter feud with Machine Gun Kelly.

Before he was a sensation in country music, Jelly Roll was a rapper. Both Jelly Roll and MGK were coming up at the same time in the music industry. They recently chatted on Spotify’s Countdown To podcast and addressed their feud.

Jelly Roll explained where it came from. “I was just a little spiteful, bitter f—ing dude. We were kind of automatically forced against each other anyways. I explained this to people and they don’t understand the concept because of our age. Now, whenever I talk to my daughter, I’m like, ‘You got to understand there was only, like, seven white rappers on earth at this time.’”

The “Save Me” singer joked that he was a little jealous of MGK. “You were just skinny and handsome. I was just a hater.”

Does it surprise you to know that the rappers hated each other at one point? Sound off in the comments.
