When Toby Keith passed away in 2024, country music lost the voice of a generation. As the one-year anniversary of his passing approaches, there’s good news for his fans. New music from the iconic singer might be coming soon. Keep reading for all the details.

Country Music Mourns Legend

The country music industry lost one of the greatest performers of all time when Toby Keith passed away in February 2024 at the age of 62 after a hard battle with stomach cancer. He went public with the cancer diagnosis in June 2022. He had been battling the illness for about six months at that point.

Toby Keith was very optimistic about his recovery. He performed his hit song “Don’t Let the Old Man In” at the People’s Choice Country Awards in September 2023. He was given the first-ever Country Icon Award at the ceremony. Miranda Lambert took home the Icon award at the 2024 awards. The singer was planning to return to the stage with a new tour, but that never happened.

His family announced in February 2024 that Toby Keith had peacefully passed away surrounded by his loved one. His death was met with an outpouring of tributes from the country music community and beyond.

Jamey Johnson Hints At New Toby Keith Song

Toby Keith made a name for himself with his patriotic anthems such as “Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue” and party songs like “Red Solo Cup.” Country music fans mourned the loss of one of the industry’s most distinctive voices. But there’s a chance they will hear Toby Keith’s voice again on a brand new song.

Country Artist Jamey Johnson spoke to Billboard magazine ahead of the release of his new album, Midnight Gasoline, out this Friday. He revealed that he was working on a song with Toby Keith before his death.

“We were working on a song toward the end. I called him up one night and shared a few lines with him, and he added a few lines, and we turned around and wrote this whole verse.”

But they never had a chance to finish the song. The singer said that Toby Keith gave the impression that he would beat the cancer. Jamey Johnson didn’t realize just how serious Toby Keith’s health was.

However, Toby Keith’s passing sparked Johnson to finish and release the new album, his first full-length record since 2010. Jamey Johnson didn’t provide a timeline for when he will release the song he wrote with Keith, but there’s hope that fans will be able to hear it someday.
