He has refused to license his music to any streaming services, which could be a huge hindrance to his bank account. Spotify and Apple make up half of the streamers, so that is a lot of money lost. At one point, over a decade ago, Garth Brooks made an attempt at his own streamer. It was called GhostTunes, but sadly, it failed. The only platform for Garth’s music is Amazon, but that accounts for just 11%, which is a drop in the bucket. So, why is he so against putting his music on the most popular streaming platforms? He shared his reasoning:

I stick up for the songwriters because I’m freakin’ one of them. Everything I do for the songwriters, I do for myself. I’m the most selfish guy you’ve ever met, okay? But if we don’t take care of these songwriters, what do you guys have to play? …And I hope that songwriters want to get a Garth Brooks cut. One, because I hope that they think that it would be cool. But two, right behind it closely, I hope it’s because they know that if you’re a Garth Brooks songwriter, you’re going to get paid.

He is a huge proponent of performers getting paid for all that they do, and will not settle for less. So, that is a big reason why he has yet to release all of his music.

CDs Anyone?

Garth Brooks does love a good box set and hopes that his fans do, as well. That is why the Tulsa, Oklahoma, native likes to work alongside Amazon because he can sell them right on the platform. However, CDs have become somewhat obsolete, and fans like to stream music from their phones and electronic devices. Therefore, Garth is not only hurting himself financially, but he is also hurting his career. He is not allowing newer audiences to hear him for the first time, which is a big problem. Hopefully, he will see what a benefit streaming is to himself and his business.
