Oliver Anthony released a new single, “Hank,” and judging by the lyrics, he is taking aim at Tyler Childers. So, what is his problem with Childers, and is the jab warranted? Keep reading for more details on what he had to say.
Oliver Anthony Making Enemy Out Of Tyler Childers
Music is a great way to express oneself and bring people together. Unfortunately, Oliver Anthony may have used it to take a jab at Tyler Childers with his new single, “Hank.” His fans know that he is not committed to putting out music regularly, despite the demand for it. Rather, he purchased a church in West Virginia, leaning his efforts there. However, when Oliver does take time for performing, it is time for celebration. Unfortunately, as aforementioned, Childers may not be screaming out loud for Oliver at his next show.
In his single, “Hank,” he sings these lyrics:
Them old songs about trotting lines and coal mines, and chewing on the hickory twig
In this world that I despise, I’m just trying to live life the same way that my granddad did
My songs might be missing two old boys kissing, but they ain’t going to miss that soul
Of a young man living in a world that’s forgetting all the things that the good Lord told
Why should that matter, and how does that reference Childers? In his video for his single “In Your Love,” he paints a love story about two male coal miners from the 1950s. Although the single was allegedly about his wife, he chose to make the video as a tribute to his cousin, whom he referred to as a big brother.
It was vital for Tyler Childers to create a video for his cousin that he could relate to. However, it seems that Oliver Anthony was taking a jab at a beautiful gesture, whether he agreed with the sentiment or not.
Celebrating Love
Oliver Anthony may struggle with what Tyler Childers has put out, but fans clearly loved the video. When “In Your Love” was released, they immediately praised Childers for his cinematic genius, some even saying it made them cry:
