Willie Nelson’s son, Lukas Nelson, has been performing all over the place for years. Recently, he did a duet with Lainey Wilson on the CMA tribute to Dolly Parton. Now, he and Zach Top honored his legendary father with an amazing cover. Keep reading for more details on how their performance went down.
Willie Nelson’s Son Teams Up With Zach Top
Fans love seeing Willie Nelson performing with his musical sons. Lukas Wilson has teamed up with him, and it has made everyone melt into mush. Moreover, Lukas’ voice is reminiscent enough of his father, so it keeps the legacy alive. Now that Willie is 93, there is a lot of sadness that he could go soon. Yet, having Lukas helps keep the music very much alive. He has won awards for A Star Is Born and works alongside Lady Gaga. Recently, he and Zach Top sang together, and it gave listeners chills.

Lukas and Zach covered “Last Thing I Needed, First Thing This Morning.” This is one of Zach’s favorite songs ever, and he had been performing it on tour. However, Lukas is on the road with him and is his opening act. The two friends ended up getting together and performing the song, blowing the whole audience away.
Lukas even went so far as to show Zach Top his cover to Willie Nelson himself. That shocked Zach because even though Willie is Lukas’ father, he had no idea he would do such a thing. Zach had this to say upon learning Willie heard his solo cover:
And Lukas texted me one day and he’s like ‘Man, I showed your cover to my dad. I just wanted to you know he thought you did really good job on it, and he liked it a lot.’ And it’s like, that’s pretty damn cool. So I would love to get to meet him, obviously.
A Great Duo
Lukas Nelson will only be on select dates with Zach Top, but hopefully, they will always do the Willie Nelson cover. It seems to be something that people adore and respect so much, so it would be great to have more. Have you listened to Lukas Nelson, and are you impressed by his voice? Finally, have you seen Zach Top on tour, and are they making Willie Nelson proud? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
