Before she became a Grammy-award winning singer, Kacey Musgraves received a bizarre request from Blake Shelton. At the start of her career, she was just a songwriter who was just trying to make it in the world. Like most aspiring country artists, she had to work odd jobs in order to make a living. After graduating high school, she moved out of her parents’ home and embarked on her journey to Nashville.
The singer performed at kids’ birthday parties to pay rent. But Kacey received a strange request that caused her to leave the job behind. Blake asked Kacey to show up at his birthday party dressed up in a French maid costume. The entertainment she had to provide was not kid-friendly.
Kacey Musgraves recalls strange story
In her new profile for Rolling Stones, Kacey Musgraves talks about the story that still stands out in her mind to this day. As fans know, the “Butterflies” singer has been through a lot. Kacey has had a year filled with ups and downs. She was riding off the high off the success of her latest album, Golden Hour. Then, she ended her marriage from Ruston Kelly.
Kacey talked about her humble beginnings. Rolling Stone’s Alex Morris wrote about the conversation they had about one of Kacey’s jobs. She received one of the strangest requests. The “Follow Your Arrow” singer immediately turned it down upon hearing it.
“She wrangled work as a demo-tape singer after quitting a job performing at kids’ birthdays when, she says, the kid in question turned out to be Blake Shelton,” Alex Morris wrote, per Yahoo! Entertainment. “Actually, I found out later it was Blake Shelton, she qualifies. ‘But the guy was like, ‘Yeah, there’s a birthday party at the Palm restaurant and it’s a famous person, and they need a French maid to deliver balloons and sit on the birthday boy’s lap.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, no I’m not doing that.'”

It’s not easy for most women to walk away from a job like that. Especially when making money is concerned. According to the contributor, Kacey was “living in a downtrodden house below an old woman everyone called Mama Sophia.” But the songstress has no regrets about turning Blake down.

“Rainbow” singer shows support for Britney Spears
Kacey Musgraves is just one of the many celebrities showing her support for Britney Spears. For most of the week, The New York Times’ documentary Framing Britney Spears has been making headline. Although the cutting-edge film premiered on Hulu on Friday, February 5, people still haven’t stopped talking about it. The film exams the pop star’s career and her mental health struggles, including her conservatorship that she’s been under since 2008.
On Monday, February 8, Kacey shared her thoughts about the documentary in a series of tweets. “Y’all…it’s plaguing me that nobody knows if @britneyspears is truly okay,” the “High Horse” singer tweeted. “Really hoping that if she isn’t she can formally vocalize it in some way and that she knows all of us on the outside really give a s*** about her well-being.”
