Wynonna Judd kept The Judds tour alive in honor of her late mother, Naomi. They two were supposed to head out together last month. Unfortunately, Naomi Judd took her own life in April and it left her family and fans devastated. Her daughter, Wynonna decided to keep the tour alive as well as her mother’s memory. Now, she is opening up about how it has been helping her heal and move on with her life.
Wynonna Judd Is ‘Healing’ Through Touring
Last month, Wynonna went out on a tour that was supposed to include her mother, Naomi. They had been known as The Judds for decades but had not toured in over ten years. This was billed as their final tour and everyone was over the moon. Sadly, Naomi’s mental health issues got the best of her. She died by suicide in April with her daughter, Ashley Judd finding her. Wynonna could have canceled it all but she pushed forward. Now, she has added an extra fifteen dates to the tour and is joined nightly by some of the best country music has to offer.
As it turns out, touring has been extremely healing for the new grandmother. “These shows are healing me, one show at a time, and all my friends are coming. It’s like the greatest party you throw yourself before the end,” Wynonna told Today. At the end of each show, she even pays tribute to Naomi with a slideshow of the two of them. Admittedly, this is very hard for her to do every night and she is honest about that.
“I will cry and then go right into the next song. It’s fun. I’m real and I’m broken and I’m blessed and I’m sassy and I’m crying and I’m snotting through the songs.” Luckily, the singer keeps tissues right next to her at all times. She is also happy to look out and see fans of all ages there in support of what she is doing. There is one very special fan that she has who keeps her moving every day.
A Lot Of Love From Someone Little
When she is not touring, Wynonna Judd spends time with her granddaughter, Kaliyah, 6 months. “She looks right through me. She gives me hope… They give you something to think about other than yourself.” Wynonna went on to add that her little love also could care less how she looks so that is an added bonus. It seems that life is working full circle for the singer and she is doing her best to find her peace despite the unthinkable tragedy.
