Jewel is known for her tranquil ballads and peaceful lyrics. However, her personal life has been anything but that. The Hallmark mystery star is from the infamous Kilcher family. More so, she grew up in the Alaskan wilds.
In addition, she has endured a lot to make it in the record business. That included living in her car and dealing with some uncouth promoters. However, that was not the worst that she had to deal with. Sadly, she lost all of her money from the last person she expected to embezzle her.

Jewel Accuses Her Mom Of Taking All Of Her Money
In the recent episode of the Verywell Mind Podcast, Jewel revealed to host Amy Moran how her mercurial relationship with her mother Lenedra “Nedra” Carroll has been over the years. This is the reason that the “Foolish Games” singer is always working on her mental health.
However, it is more than some arguments with her mommy dearest. The singer revealed that her mother stole $100 million from her.
I didn’t really realize what my mom was until I was 30-something … I woke up and realized she embezzled all of my money — over $100 million.
Moreover, the singer and yodeler found that when she looked back on this time, she realized that her mother was not just stealing. She was also lying to her.
And then as I started investigating the truth about what my mom had told me in my life versus what was true, I had realized that pretty much everything that I had formed my reality off was fiction.
Sadly, she learned a startling truth at the age of 34. She had to learn the truth about her past. Jewel was in debt for several million dollars, and her mother stole all the money she earned from her hard work.
Atz Kilcher Took Children Away From Lenedra Carroll
Jewel went on to reveal that her father, Atz Kilcher, who stars in the Discovery reality series, Alaska: The Last Frontier, had a reason for separating his children from Lenedra. He wasn’t punishing her. It turns out, Nedra didn’t want to be a mother.
In Jewel’s autobiography, Never Broken–Songs Are Only Half The Story, Jewel took a deep dive into her emotions surrounding her mother. “I can’t tell you the tears I’ve cried to see who my mom really is.” She only confessed her need for a mother. “I can’t tell you about the pain, and how my heart to this day screams to have a mom in my life.”
However, Kilcher has learned that she cannot trust the woman that she knew as her mother admitting that “it is not safe with her.” She has now become so detached from her, she can only this parental unit by her first name “Every day I miss having a mom. But I don’t miss Nedra.”
Now, Jewel uses tools that she has learned over the years to help her overcome the pain she endured from her mother.
