Cody Johnson and Jelly Roll might not be the two most expected artists to do a duet together. Yet, from what Cody says, it is a possibility. They might seem like opposites at first glance but Jelly Roll and Cody Johnson have more in common than you know. Read on for more details.

Conversation About A Duet

According to Taste of Country, Cody Johnson told the press who were backstage during the CMA Fest on June 9, 2023, “…we’ve talked about working together.” He also said he and Jelly Roll have respect for each other and that they are both “real.”

Backstage at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium, Johnson said he and Jelly Roll have listened to songs that speak to them both but he wasn’t about to reveal any surprises. More so, he did confirm, “So you’ll see something from us very soon.”

Unique Musicians Have Things In Common

Jelly Roll and Cody Johnson are unique artists. While Cody is mostly country with a background in the Texas rodeo scene, Jelly Roll is rough around the edges and comes from the hip-hop scene.

However, Cody and Jelly understand each other because they have both had difficult pasts.

Cody Johnson says that he reached a point in his life when he had to either go after his dream or leave it behind. If he hadn’t decided to go after his dream of being a professional musician, he shares could have ended up in jail. Yet, Cody did work as a guard in the Texas State Penitentiary System.

Jelly admits that he had a lot of trouble with the law in the past. He did time in jail for a felony charge and says that he still experiences the consequences. He was in and out of jail for 12 years before he was told he had a daughter; that changed everything for him.

Cody and Jelly have talked about their experiences with incarceration and the penitentiary system.

They Understand The Issues of Family & Fame

Both Cody and Jelly Roll have become famous in a short time so they both know how fame can affect family life. Success and music are important for both of them so they spend a lot of time with their bands and working on their music. On the other hand, they each have families and want to be the best husbands and fathers they can be.

Johnson says they relate to each other. Even though they are opposites in some ways, those differences attract them to each other. Yet, their similarities cause them to truly get what the life of a musician is like. More so, they understand how much work it takes to be fathers, husbands, leaders, and performers.
