Dan + Shay are revealing that the duo almost split up and even had a time when they weren’t speaking to each other. Luckily, they have been able to work things out and are doing better now.
Duo Talks About Almost Splitting Up
Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney went to their YouTube channel to share an emotional video talking about how they went through a bad time together. Dan shared saying, “I was in, like, the lowest low of my entire life. Came off the road and I was like, ‘Man, I f–king hate music. I’m ready to quit.” Shay went to say, “I could feel the separation, and I think there was little things between you and I that we never talked about,” Mooney adds. “It was affecting everything. Not just our band. Like, my marriage, everything. I was in a really dark place.”
They shared that this was the first time they were able to step back and appreciate things like winning a Grammy. Shay said they would go to shows and then even leave mad over something stupid. He also admits to drinking a lot at that point in his life.
Dan went on to share how much he loved the duo.
“The thing that filled my cup the most was being in a room with you, making music together. One of the most important things that’s ever happened in my life was Dan + Shay… If we’re gonna keep going forever, let’s get ourselves right. Let’s have a gut check.”

Back in 2022, they didn’t even speak to each other for four months. They knew that the band calling it quits was possible, but when they talked it out they were able to work through their issues.
How Are Dan + Shay Now?
Dan + Shay have been together for over ten years now. They recently shared on Hot 20 Countdown on CMT that they are best friends. They are also now about to be the first duo to be judges on The Voice. Next season, they will be working together to coach contestants on the hit show after Blake Shelton has left.

Now, they feel like they could do this for the rest of their lives together. It has changed their lives and things are going well. Dan + Shay made it clear that they are here to stay. It sounds like they have been able to work through their issues and better things are coming.
