Country music superstar John Rich, half of the super duo, Big & Rich, is no longer a part of the ESPN family. “Comin’ To Your City,” originally sung by this duo, will no longer be featured as part of ESPN’s College GameDay as it has been in the past, at least not with Big & Rich singing it. This decision was not made by Rich. It came directly from ESPN and he is shocked.
The End Of An Era
Big & Rich has been a part of ESPN’s College GameDay for the past 16 years. They have been a part of the opening for this ESPN staple college football fans have come to love. The reason for the change is still unknown.
With the 2023 college football season starting today, this will be a big change for ESPN. It will also be a big change for the fans who watch college football on ESPN. Only time will tell if the millions of fans will embrace this decision.
Why Did John Rich Get The AX?
Neither John Rich nor ESPN have come out and directly explained why Big & Rich will no longer be a part of ESPN’s College GameDay. Fans of Rich and Big & Rich can only speculate as to why the cable sports channel dropped them. Perhaps an explanation will be given at a later day.
John Rich seems to be taking the change in stride. He took to Twitter to say how he was appreciative of the time he had with ESPN. It was in this same tweet he said this was a decision made by the sports channel.
Speculation About The Reason For The Change
Country music fans must be wondering why ESPN made this choice. They can’t help but think it might have to do with John Rich’s political views. Rich is known to be a Conservative. Being a Conservative in this day and age has caused issues with other country singers and those issues appear to be growing.
Despite that, some country stars are embracing those issues and are still speaking about their convictions and beliefs. Oliver Anthony, a country singer John Rich offered to produce his first album, is one of them. Country music fans are embracing Anthony, his music and what this on-the-rise country star believes in.

There is a big change to ESPN’s College GameDay. Big & Rich will no longer be heard singing “Comin’ To Your City” in its opening. Instead, Darius Rucker, Lainey Wilson and The Cadillac Three will be singing this ESPN staple.
Mistake By ESPN?
With country music fans embracing conservative country singers, did ESPN make a mistake by taking Big & Rich off their College GameDay lineup? Did their decision have anything to do with John Rich’s political views? What other reason would they have for making this change? Will their decision influence fans as to whether or not they will continue watching ESPN’s College GameDay?
