Debate Rages Over Jason Aldean’s Controversial Number One Hit Song

Jason Aldean has had dozens of songs hit number one on the country charts, but he’s never had the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. That is, until he released the video for “Try That In A Small Town,” and the media attention pushed the song to the top of the Billboard charts.

The song got little attention when it was first released in May 2023. However, two months later, the song was all anyone could talk about. The music video for “Try That In A Small Town” came out in July and immediately caused uproar due to the use of footage from violent riots.

But more than that, the video was shot at the Maury County Courthouse in Tennessee, which was the site of an infamous lynching in 1927.

Jason Aldean Admits One Regret Over ‘Try That In A Small Town’

The outrage over “Try That In A Small Town” died down some as the attention turned to Oliver Anthony’s unexpected viral hit “Rich Men North Of Richmond.”

However, Aldean has been on the media circuit doing interviews to promote his new album. Of course, the topic of the controversial songs comes up.

During his recent interview with CBS Mornings, Jason Aldean stood by the song and video. “I don’t feel bad about [it] because I know my intentions behind, you know, shooting the video there and recording the song and everything,” the country singer said about the backlash (via Us Weekly.)

However, there is one thing he would change “knowing what I know now.” Jason Aldean’s one regret over the “Try That In A Small Town” video was the filming location. “Maybe you look at doing it somewhere else,” he said in hindsight.
