This weekend, Garth Brooks celebrates the grand opening of his new Nashville bar, Friends in Low Places. The opening will live stream on Amazon Prime Video with a personal Garth concert to celebrate its opening.
While the name Friends in Low Places fits perfectly since that is Garth’s most famous song, he had a different name in mind for the bar. Here is a look at his NSFW name and what they originally had planned.
Garth Brooks’s original idea for the bar name was funny
Before naming his new Nashville bar Friends in Low Places, Garth had a different name in mind. Since Garth’s first name starts with the letter “G,” he thought it might be a great idea if they named it The G-Spot. Of course, that name has other innuendos, and they even had some great marketing plans surrounding it.
Garth was talking about his new bar and said that they thought about The G-Spot and even put the word out that it was under consideration (via Instagram). Garth said a girl tweeted in response that if they named it The G-Spot, no guy would ever find it. Cody Allen, the Sirius XM host that Garth was speaking with, commented, “It’ll make good t-shirts for guys though…’I found the G-Spot.’“
However, Garth decided on Friends in Low Places instead, which is a lot more PG and wouldn’t likely lead to non-stop jokes about the name.
Garth also has some things he wants his bar to do differently than other bars on Lower Broadway in Nashville. He wants to close an hour earlier (2 am instead of 3 am) and have bands stop playing at midnight instead of closing time. This is to help aid in the noise pollution in the area late at night. He also guarantees that they will be playing real country music in his bar.
“I want to hear Haggard coming out of that honky tonk. And I don’t think that’s impossible to ask,” Garth said.
Garth Brooks putting on a live concert to celebrate bar opening
Garth Brooks plans on celebrating the Friends in Low Places grand opening by putting on a live show that will broadcast on Amazon Prime Video.
The concert will air immediately following the NFL’s first Black Friday football game (also on Prime Video between the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets). This should start around 7 p.m. EST. It also makes sense because Garth has made his music only available on Amazon Music for streaming purposes.
