Toby Keith has fought through his cancer battle and remained mostly private along the way. However, after a recent performance of an older song brought him back into the public eye, Toby has some big news. He is hinting at an upcoming tour.
Here is what Keith said about the touring possibilities and when this could happen.
Toby Keith hints at upcoming tour
Toby Keith made a big return when he took the stage at the People’s Choice Country Awards and sang an old song that now has a new meaning in his current life. That song was “Don’t Let the Old Man In.” While he wrote the song based on a Clint Eastwood quote, his cancer battle has helped it achieve a much deeper meaning.
With the overwhelming love that poured in after the performance, Keith has the itch to start performing again. His first step was setting up three shows in Las Vegas in December. Now, it sounds like he is hitting the road again. “We’ve built a new set, and we’re getting the trucks and buses fired up,” Toby told Taste of Country. “Our plan is to go forward, don’t let this stuff define our future — let’s go.”
The Vegas shows take place at Dolby Live at Park MGM. He scheduled two shows on December 10 and 11. Both sold out. He then added a third show on December 14. Toby did two surprise shows at Hollywood Corners in Norman, Oklahoma, in July. He played for over two hours at each show to see if his body could hold up. It did.
“I just wanted to go three [hours] to see if I was tired. I cruised on through it, it was a lot like riding a bike,” Toby said about the Oklahoma shows.
Toby Keith offers health update
While fans might be worried about Toby Keith going on tour after a long stomach cancer battle, he seems ready to go. He offered an update on his health in a conversation with former Oklahoma Sooners head coach Bob Stoops. In the conversation, Toby said he feels “pretty good.”
Keith also said it’s a “rollercoaster” during his cancer battle. However, he also mentioned he is lucky because he is wealthy enough to get the “best treatments” possible. Keith also said he is undergoing different treatments and said he was heading to Florida for another treatment.
He also said he has lived “10 lifetimes” and trusts God during this hard time. He also said that he plans to use his own cancer experience to hopefully help others in the future who face similar battles.
