Willie Nelson was honored with an induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Country music star Chris Stapleton was on hand for the induction and was sitting close to Willie during his induction speech. After the ceremony, Chris spoke about how emotional the moment made him.
Here is what Chris Stapleton said about being part of the Willie Nelson induction ceremony.
Chris Stapleton teared up during Willie Nelson Hall of Fame speech
Willie Nelson was one of the new entrants in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He delivered his induction speech with his band waiting behind him for him to perform after the speech. One of those band members was Chris Stapleton, who was there to play guitar and sing alongside Willie. By the time Willie was done, Chris was tearing up.
Chris explained the moment in a video on Instagram. He said that he shed a few tears during the speech because of the gravity of the moment. More so, he added that it didn’t hit him until it was happening. When he realized how close he was sitting to Willie, and how important this was, he suddenly realized how monumental this moment was.
“It was a very heavy and cool moment to get to be that close to,” Chris said in the video. “You know, Willie made a wonderful speech and I was tearing up, and I was looking back at Paul, who plays in my band on steel guitar.” He went on to say that after the speech, Willie looked at Chris and asked what song they were going to play. Finally, Chris shared that was the best moment, as they could just start playing music together.
Willie Nelson latest country star in Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has expanded its criteria for entrance. While it seemed to start with rap acts getting in, with names like NWA, LL Cool J, and Missy Elliott in the Hall, there are now more and more country stars finding their way in. Willie Nelson is just the latest.

Dolly Parton entered the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame last year, and she rejected the induction up front. However, she soon understood what it meant and accepted it before releasing a rock album this year. Now, one year later, Willie Nelson is in. This also isn’t new, as Johnny Cash was inducted in 1980, over 40 years ago.
Along with Willie Nelson, the new class of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame included Sheryl Crow, Kate Bush, Missy Elliott, the late George Michael, Rage Against the Machine, The Spinners, DJ Kool Herc, Link Wray, Chaka Chan, Al Kooper, Bernie Taupin, and Don Cornelius.
