Within that time, the song has garnered hundreds of thousands of views, and seems to perfectly encapsulate everything that these two have been going through.
Rather than being a song about idealized love, Purple Irises is from the perspective of people who have been together for a long time and still manage to keep the spark alive. Love isn’t perfect and has turbulent times, and Purple Irises finds a way to capture that perfectly. The song also blends Stefani and Shelton’s music styles into one track, much in the same manner that they’ve blended their lives together.
Husband And Wife Power Couple Talk About The Inspiration Behind Purple Irises
With all of the trouble in paradise rumors and split speculation, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton went on The Bobby Bones Show to talk more about what inspired their new duet. Speaking of the song, Stefani said that she “didn’t write it as a duet.” Originally, it was one of her solo songs. She asked her husband to sing on it, and it eventually became the collaboration it is now.
Gwen Stefani said that a good bit of inspiration for the new song came from the time they spent on lockdown during the pandemic. They were on the ranch in Oklahoma as the world stopped. At one point, they found purple irises growing. They took the flowers and replanted them back on their land, and that theme has clearly carried over into this latest song.
Speaking of Purple Irises, Gwen Stefani said it “reflects where I’m at.” Fittingly, it turned into something that seems to mirror where she is in her life with her husband, too.
