Blake Shelton is one lucky man. Many superstars of his caliber have difficulty finding the inspiration to to become superstars and to continue to be one. This is not the case for the “Boys ‘Round Here” singer. Blake Shelton was lucky enough to have been able to find his inspiration all around him. In fact, the inspiration for his career in country music was practically in his own backyard.
Long List Of Oklahoma Talent
Oklahoma is known for its long list of talent. This is not limited to only country music. There have been all sorts of talented people from the Sooner State in all sorts of different careers. Of course, there is Will Rogers. He is probably one of the most famous of all Okies. Oklahoma produces talent in athletics, movies and television, aviation and space travel as well as money in other fields.
Country music is no different. Oklahoma has produced dozens of talented country music singers including Blake Shelton. Even with the long list of other talented Okies, country music singers probably get the most recognition.
Oklahoma Country Singers
Oklahoma does not have a shortage of country music megastars. Obviously, that includes Blake Shelton who is from Ada, Oklahoma. He is just one of many though.
Carrie Underwood, a winner of American Idol, is from Checotah, Oklahoma. The “Go Rest High On That Mountain” singer, Vince Gill, is from a suburb of Oklahoma City. Garth Brooks, famous for “Friends In Low Places” is from another suburb of Oklahoma City, Yukon. The long list of country music singers from Oklahoma goes on and on.
The Inspiration For Blake Shelton
Although many of the previously mentioned country music megastars influenced his career, Blake Shelton admits his inspiration for his career comes from two specific singers. Those country music singers are Toby Keith and Reba McEntire.
“It’s pretty crazy when you look down the list of artists that have come from Oklahoma. It’s a huge list and it’s a lot of superstars,” Blake Shelton explained. “Growing up in Oklahoma, that was part of the drive that gave me the confidence to come to Nashville was knowing that Reba was just 20 miles from here. I mean, I’m talking about she came from the middle of nowhere and now she’s the biggest star in country music. It was really inspiring.”
“I remember when Toby came out being from Oklahoma and ‘Should’ve Been A Cowboy,’ and my mom saying, ‘Oh my gosh, I saw that guy in Oklahoma City last year’,” Blake Shelton explained. Moment like that lit a fire in Blake Shelton and, as the saying goes, the rest is history.
