Dolly Parton’s iconic theme park, Dollywood, recently overtook Disney as the best theme park in one nationwide poll. But the popular attraction was closed indefinitely after a guest suffered an injury over the weekend. Keep reading for more details and find out when the park will reopen.

Dollywood’s 2024 Season Already A Struggle

Dollywood opened its doors in 1986 and has been a popular tourist destination ever since. The theme park is located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Millions of excitement seekers go through the gates every year. The 38th season kicked off in March with new exhibits and even a visit from the legendary entertainer herself.

But just two months into the 2024 season, the theme park abruptly closed in the middle of the day in May. Parkgoers were ushered out due to severe weather expected in the area. The theme park was slightly damaged after a tornado ripped through the area but was able to quickly reopen.

Now it shuttered again without warning. What happened this time?

Instead, they found themselves seeking higher ground and refuge amid torrential downpour. The July 28th storm brought a flash flood that rippled throughout the theme park. CNN reported that at least one guest suffered an injury during the hazardous weather, but details of the nature of the injury weren’t released.

The local police and fire departments were called in to help get visitors and employees to safety during the unexpected flash flooding. Guests who were at Dollywood that day took to social media to share footage of the water rushing through the walkways and flooding vehicles in the parking lot.

When Will Theme Park Reopen?

The dangerous weather once again forced Dollywood to close its doors. The park’s social media team posted on Twitter that cleanup crews had been brought in to survey for any damage. Furthermore, assistance was offered to anyone whose vehicle were affected by the surprise storm.

The theme park vowed to reopen on Monday, July 30th at noon, despite the previous day’s floods. Hopefully none of the attractions were damaged during the storm.

Dollywood’s policy states that they offer refunds and rain checks in the event the park is unexpectedly closed. Dolly Parton has yet to address the weather incident or the guest injured at Dollywood.
