Country music legend Dolly Parton has never been one to mince words, and her recent reaction to the CMA Awards snub of Queen Bey herself, Beyoncé, is no exception. Keep reading to find out what Dolly thinks about the lack of nominations for Beyoncé.
Dolly Parton Reacts To Beyoncé CMA Awards Snub
Dolly Parton was all-in on Beyoncé crossing over into the country. She not only let the pop star cover her hit song “Jolene,” but also added made a surprise appearance on the album via voicemail.
Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter soared to the top of country music charts. In a surprising snub, none of the songs or the album itself earned any CMA Award nominations.
With a career spanning decades and genres, Dolly Parton has always embraced experimentation and collaboration. She sang with Post Malone on his country debut album. In a recent interview with Variety, the “9 to 5” singer shared her thoughts on the Beyoncé snub. The outlet noted that Beyoncé was previously booed when she performed with The Chicks at the CMA Awards in 2016.
But, Dolly Parton doesn’t consider the lack of nominations a snub against the pop star. While she thought the Cowboy Carter album was “great,” it was her belief that the Country Music Association was rewarding artists who have been in the country music industry for a long time.
“There’s so many wonderful country artists that, I guess probably the country music field, they probably thought, well, we can’t really leave out some of the ones that spend their whole life doing that.”
Dolly Parton added, “I don’t think it was a matter of shutting out, like doing that on purpose. I think it was just more of what the country charts and the country artists were doing, that do that all the time, not just a specialty album.”
Dolly Parton did say she was open to performing “Jolene” live with Beyoncé.
Praise For Taylor Swift
Beyoncé aside, Variety asked Dolly her thoughts on some of the biggest female stars of the summer, such as Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan, and Sabrina Carpenter.
The Queen of Country Music said she’s like a proud Aunt for “all the gals” but singled out Taylor Swift as the most inspiring.
“Taylor Swift is amazing what she has done with her career. I just admire her very much and how she’s handled her business, her personal life, and what all she has meant to so many young people.”
