Dolly Parton, the country music legend and philanthropic powerhouse, is once again stepping up to support those in need. Fans may recall that Dolly Parton helped fund the COVID vaccine that saved millions of lives in 2021. This time, her efforts are focused on aiding the victims of Hurricane Helene, which recently devastated communities along the Gulf Coast.
Dolly Parton’s Close Connection To Tennessee
Dolly Parton grew up in poverty in Tennessee and has never forgotten her humble roots. The iconic entertainer has a long history of giving back through her charitable work. From her Imagination Library, which provides free books to children worldwide, to her efforts supporting wildfire relief in her home state, Dolly has consistently used her platform and resources to make a positive impact.
“I look around, and think these are my mountains, these are my valleys. These are my rivers flowing like a stream … These are my people and this is my home,” Dolly Parton said during a news conference at a Walmart in Newport, Tennessee, earlier this week.
Dolly Parton Steps Up To Help Hurricane Helene Victims
When Hurricane Helene made landfall, bringing with it powerful winds and heavy rainfall, Parton knew she had to act. She quickly announced plans to support the recovery efforts, pledging a substantial donation to established relief organizations working on the ground.
Over 200 people are presumed dead after the hurricane wreaked havoc on community after community along the Gulf Coast and southeastern U.S. states, including Tennessee. Millions of people have been displaced from their homes due to the powerful storm.
Red Cross, FEMA, and other organizations are doing what they can, but it’s not enough. Dolly Parton is among the country stars donating their own money for relief for the victims of Hurricane Helene.
According to Us Weekly, Dolly Parton is donating $1 million dollars to the Mountain Ways Foundation. Furthermore, Dollywood and the other companies she owns would match that donation, resulting in millions in Hurricane relief.
“Today, I wanted to announce that from myself personally, just from my own bank account, I’m donating a million dollars today, but there’s a lot to be done, and we’re trying to find other ways to even raise more funds.”
The singer’s sister, Stella Parton, took to Twitter to praise Dolly Parton’s act of kindness while throwing shade at “rich guys” taking photo ops amid the devastation.
“Have you noticed how all the rich guys never step up in a disaster, except for a photo op ? My sister puts her money where her mouth is!“
