Vince Gill is sharing how he managed to remain “steady” for his struggling wife, Amy Grant. The two musicians tied the knot in 2000 and have been blissfully in love ever since. Yet, things have gotten rough for Amy but fortunately, she has had the best support system anyone could ask for. Keep reading for further details.
Vince Gill Remained ‘Steady’ For Struggling Wife, Amy Grant
Amy Grant has been recording albums and has been a force to be reckoned with since the late seventies. She started garnering Grammy nominations right off the bat and has earned a total of 19 nods and 6 wins in her career. Amy had a true resurgence in the late eighties, and early nineties with her album, Heart in Motion. It included songs such as “Every Heartbeat” and “Baby Baby.” During this time, her marriage to Gary Chapman, with whom she had three children, came to an end after seventeen years.
Shortly thereafter, she hooked up with fellow musician, Vince Gill. They ended up tying the knot and welcoming a daughter together. Sadly, in 2020, Amy ended up having open-heart surgery and then, two years later, she had a bike accident. Now, the long-lasting musical couple is opening up about how Vince was there for Amy through thick and thin. According to People, it felt like it was a neverending battle but they have made it through to the other side but how?
Aside from Amy Grant’s open-heart surgery, she also had a brain injury, throat surgery, and shoulder surgery. These are things that may not have been heavily addressed but now, Vince and Amy are speaking up. He had this to say about the constant series of unfortunate events:
It was just one thing after another after another.
Despite all of this, Amy felt lucky knowing that she had Vince who was a stabilizing force:
Vince is just steady. I don’t know all the ways I lean on him. I’m not even aware of it because it’s second nature.
The two shared how Amy learned she had heart problems. Vince was the one getting tested after a bout of shortness of breath. He was fine but needed to lose weight. They then suggested she undergo the same tests but she was not as lucky as her husband.
Preparing For The Worst
Amy Grant had a tainted family history so she did what they asked and it was soon revealed she had PAPVR (partial anomalous pulmonary venous return). This affects blood flow to the heart so she had to undergo surgery which was even scarier since it was during the pandemic. Therefore, Vince Gill could not be with his wife. Luckily, he had nothing going on careerwise because of the pandemic so he could be there for her recovery:
With everything she had to face, she just did it with kindness and grace and ‘OK, we’ll get through this one, then we’ll get through that one.’ She’s pretty strong.
A brain injury followed due to the bike accident, leading Vince to cancel shows but write a sweet song for Amy. He performed it with their daughter but in 2023, Amy had a cyst removed from her throat. That meant she had to learn how to sing again. Additionally, her memory is faded from the brain injury but has to remember it was just two years ago.
They have weathered many storms and are still here to tell the tale. It seems to have made them even stronger in the long run and hopefully, they can just have peace.
