Miranda Lambert mourned the loss of her dog Jessi. Fans are showing support for the country musician on social media. As they know, Miranda is a huge dog lover. She even co-founded the non-profit, MuttNation Foundation. The singer reminds people about the importance of adopting shelter pets.
On Thursday, July 29, the “Little Red Wagon” singer took to Instagram to share a photo of her beautiful dog. Miranda announced to her fans that the beloved pooch passed away. She wrote an emotional post in tribute to Jessi. If you’re a dog lover, this news is sure to break your heart.
Miranda Lambert shares the passing of Jessi
The Nashville Star alum took to Instagram to share a heartbreaking story of her beloved dog. Miranda Lambert posted a series of photos during good times with Jessi. She revealed that she recently had to say goodbye to her fur baby. Miranda adopted the dog 13 and a half years ago.
“I found her and her brother Waylon on the side of the road in Oklahoma in Jan 2008 in the middle of a sleet storm,” Miranda wrote. “They were 6 weeks old. My mom was in the truck with me and we were listening to the ‘I am Jessi Colter’ album. That’s how they got their names.”
She mourned the loss of Waylon in October 2020. Miranda is grateful to get to spend a little more time with Jessi. She revealed that the pet siblings “are reunited at the rainbow bridge.” Miranda paid her respects to her dog by playing “Storms Never Last” from the first record they both listened to in her truck.

Miranda thanked the veterinarians who cared for Jessi. In due part to the team, she got to have Waylon and Jessi for a few more years. She also thanked Sarah Nanney and Julia Nentwig for being Jessi’s “other moms.” While it’s hard for Miranda to say goodbye, she feels that “the love is worth it.”
Fans pay their respects
Miranda Lambert got a lot of love and support from fans. Even fellow country music artists and celebrities took to her post to pay their respects. Country legend Tanya Tucker wrote, “I’m so sorry honey! Jessi had a long wonderful life with you being the badass momma! Sending y’all my love.”
Country music artist Tenille Townes added, “I’m so sorry….. sending you so much.” Pistol Annies bandmate Ashley Monroe commented, “Whew. I love those babies and you.”

Miranda has helped many other dogs find homes through her MuttNation Foundation. She founded the organization in 2009 to help many shelter dogs find homes. Earlier this year, MuttNation donated $250,000 to pet shelters across the U.S. Each shelter received $5,000 as part of the organization’s annual “Mutts Across America” campaign.
