CMT Music Awards Announces New Host City

Country Music, Country Music News, News

For country music artists, winning a Grammy is special, but there is something about the CMT Music Awards that brings out the best in country singers. Dating all the way back to 1967, the awards tend to mean a great deal to artists since it is the fans who get to vote. Before shows like American Idol, The Nashville Network realized the importance of letting the people who buy the albums and go to the shows decide who wins. Although the CMT Music Awards spent the last two decades in Nashville, it appears in 2024, the award show is moving to a new home nearly 900 miles away.

With such a rich history in Nashville, the move might be a shock for some. Over the years, fans watched as legend Shania Twain teamed up with Taylor Swift to portray their own version of Thelma & Louise. But before sharing the screen, in 2007, Taylor Swift won her first professional career award for her music video for her song “Tim McGraw.”

Other memorable moments throughout the history of the CMT Music Awards include The Judds’ last performance before Naomi Judd tragically took her own life a day before her induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Attending the ceremony, Wynonna Judd and her sister, Ashley, took a moment to honor their late mother and music icon.

Moving To The Longhorn State

Looking forward to the future, the CMT Awards announced on April 7, 2024, the awards will air live from the Moody Center in Austin, Texas. Excited about the move, executive producers Leslie Fram, John Hamlin, and Margaret Comeaux said in a statement, “We couldn’t be more excited to bring the CMT MUSIC AWARDS on CBS back to Austin in 2024! From the electrifying, sold-out Moody Center crowd to fans packing the streets for our outdoor Congress stage, and Bevo himself walking the Red Carpet, our Texas-sized welcome proved to be one of our biggest and most unforgettable shows yet.”

The producers thanked the Moody Center for welcoming the awards and promised to bring “CMT’s signature blend of world premieres, genre-blending surprises and once-in-a-lifetime collaborations back this April!”

Austin Mayor Welcome CMT Music Awards

As for other details like hosts, lineup, and nominations, the CMT Music Awards hasn’t released any notable information as to what fans should expect. While there are still a few months to go before walking the stage, Kirk Watson, the mayor of Austin, shared his excitement, stating, “Austin is no stranger to celebrating its vibrant music community and showcasing an eclectic array of musical talents. We’re proud that the CMT Music Awards are returning to Austin”.
