When Blake Shelton left The Voice, it left a hole in the show as he was the final original coach left standing. However, what might come as a surprise to many fans is that Blake had actually wanted to leave the show much earlier than he did.

Here is what Blake said about his departure and when he really started to think about leaving The Voice.

Blake Shelton wanted to leave The Voice sooner than he did

Blake Shelton served as a coach on The Voice for the first 23 seasons of the show’s history. No one else comes close. Adam Levine lasted for 16 seasons before leaving. The other two original coaches only lasted for four seasons (CeeLo Green) and six seasons (Christina Aguilera). The other notable faces include Kelly Clarkson (nine seasons) and John Legend (eight seasons).

While many fans miss the country superstar on The Voice, Blake is happy to be gone. As a matter of fact, he said he wanted to leave the show earlier than he did. Blake appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show on Friday and talked about the reality TV show. When asked if he missed it, he said, “Not yet,” saying he was on it for 23 seasons.

Blake also said he planned to leave before the 23rd season. However, COVID-19 convinced him to stick around. “I was planning on wrapping it up around 20 seasons or 21 seasons and then obviously COVID hit and then I didn’t want to walk out on the show in the middle of COVID,” Blake said. He admitted he didn’t have anything else to do, so he stuck around. With that said, he said he stayed on the show for too long to miss it now.

Blake Shelton on what The Voice gave him

Blake says he left the show with a keepsake. He says he wanted the big red chair he used on The Voice, and they shipped it to him in Oklahoma. He also said he got paid “a bunch of money,” so that was always a lure to keep him on the show.

Blake also met his wife thanks to The Voice. He said it all connects to the reality show, as he had a country career, but the show gave him something else and changed his entire life. “I mean look at the family right there. It’s like all of the sudden, I’m The Brady Bunch.”

In his 23 seasons on The Voice, Blake won nine times. The new coaches on the show have a lot to live up to, but with Reba McEntire stepping into Blake’s chair, it seems The Voice has everything under control. In Season 25, the coaches will be Reba, Dan + Shay (the first duo coaches), Chance the Rapper, and John Legend.
