Carly Pearce has found herself under fire after she canceled a recent concert at the last minute. The concern is that promoters said she had a way to make it work and refused. There is also the fact that Pearce kept the money she was paid even though she never went through with the concert.
Here is why Carly canceled her concert and what both sides had to say about the incident.
Carly Pearce cancels concert at last minute
Carly Pearce is facing criticism after she canceled a recent concert in Jeffersonville, Indiana, on Saturday night. According to city officials, Carly canceled her appearance at the Jammin’ in Jeff concert series when she stated concerns about upcoming weather conditions.
According to city officials (via Country Music Family), there was a chance for storms starting at around 10 p.m. The storms did arrive later in the night. However, Jeffersonville officials said they offered her a chance to go on stage earlier to have everything finished before the storms began to arrive. According to the officials, Pearce canceled the show at 6 p.m.
They also said she rejected all alternative plans for the show. Also, Pearce received a performance fee for the concert. Despite canceling the show, Pearce refused to return the money. In her contract, there is a provision for “an act of God.” Pearce claimed that the possible storms were an act of God. She kept the money. The city also said they spent $20,000 on her songwriters and support staff. Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore called it “disheartening.”
Carly Pearce’s publicist explains their side of the story
Carly Pearce’s publicist had a different story. According to the publicist, Carly Pearce and the city officials decided together to cancel her concert. They claimed it was all about the safety of the public. Her publicist also claims the city never asked her to perform earlier, saying the officials were lying about this.
City officials did not respond to the publicist’s claim. They said it was based on their legal department’s recommendation not to continue speaking on the matter. However, the city’s Facebook post about the situation saw most fans take Carly’s side. While there was no mention of her keeping the money and not performing, most people felt that it was a “free show” and safety was more important.
There has been no word on if Carly Pearce would consider rescheduling the missed concert. There is also no word on whether Jeffersonville would consider paying her again to return. For now, it is only a situation of one side blaming the other for the cancelation.
