Ever since CMT pulled the Jason Aldean song “Try That in a Small Town,” news has poured in that several country music stars have come to his defense. One of these news articles stated that Morgan Wallen had all his music pulled from CMT in protest.

However, this news ended up as more fake news flooding in during the Jason Aldean controversy. Here is what you need to know.

Morgan Wallen never had his music removed from CMT

The news spreading on social media claims that Morgan Wallen had all his music pulled from CMT. In the article, it quoted Wallen as saying, “I support Jason Aldean. I support the song, the message in the song, I too am kind of a bigot and proud of it.”

That alone should have told people that the article was satire – or fake news. However, there is also the case that many people still remember when people tried to cancel Morgan Wallen when he was caught on video using racial slurs. That might have helped lead to some acceptance of the fake news at face value.

These articles are getting more and more outrageous in their statements and fake interviews. However, people share them on Twitter anyway based on the title and a pull quote. It is clear no one who is sharing the articles has read them – or they are doing this to prove a point.

The site the article is from is latherland.com, which is owned by the same company that owns The Dunning-Kruger Times. Both sites openly admit that they are a satire site (similar to The Onion). The Dunning-Kruger Effect is a psychological term referencing the “overconfidence of people with low intelligence.” The focus of these articles seems to be seeing how many people will share them without knowing it is fake.

Music stars have come out in support of Jason Aldean

While the Morgan Wallen news was fake, there are plenty of people who have come out in support of Jason Aldean in this situation. In no surprise, guitar legend Ted Nugent has come out in support of Jason and the song on Fox News. According to Nugent, only “idiots” hate Jason’s song.

Another non-country musician in Mumford and Sons founding member Winston Marshall came to the defense of the song. According to Marshall, people who have attacked the song for seemingly glorifying violence are “diabolical.”

Furthermore, more country stars have weighed in on the song. Cody Johnson defended the song, saying it was just about being patriotic. Blanco Brown defended Jason, who he said is not racist, although he said he personally hates the lyrics of the song. It should be noted that Jason doesn’t write any of his music’s lyrics. Other singers who came to Jason’s defense are Lee Greenwood and Neal McCoy.
