Garth Brooks & Trisha Yearwood Approaching 18th Wedding Anniversary
Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brooks have been publicly linked since 2002, though rumors swirled of their relationship before that.
Both singers were still looking for their big break when they first met back in the late 1980s during a recording session. Yearwood and Garth were both married to other people at the time, so they remained just friends for years.
By 2001, they were both divorced, and their friendship turned into more.
Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood married in December 2005. They will celebrate their 18th anniversary later this year.
This Former President and First Lady Inspire Them
Over the years, Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood formed a friendship with a former President and First Lady. After Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans and the surrounding areas in 2005, the country singers jumped into action, joining Habitat For Humanity to help rebuild.
Former President Jimmy Carter and his wife, First Lady Rosalynn Carter, became involved with the organization in 1984, hosting an annual Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project.
In the aftermath of Katrina, the two couples wound up working together and became close friends. Trisha Yearwood recently spoke with PEOPLE magazine about their connection.
“After Katrina in ’07, we fell in love with Habitat for Humanity. We knew we loved the Carters and we fell more in love with them just getting a chance to work alongside them,” – Trisha Yearwood, PEOPLE.
Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood hosted the 2023 Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project, building homes in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Unfortunately, the Carters, both in their 90s, weren’t able to join them, as the elderly couple have been battling health issues.

Garth Brooks Admits He ‘Bickers’ With Wife Over This
Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood bonded with the Carters over more than just their humanitarian efforts. The country stars shared with PEOPLE how the former President and First Lady inspired them “by their example as husband and wife.”
Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter married in 1946.
After working alongside the Carters for over 15 years, Brooks shared the secret he learned from their marriage. “You notice right away they bicker back and forth about the right way to do things.”
“That kind of works for us too!” he said about bickering with Trisha Yearwood.
For her part, Yearwood said, “We’ll never fill their shoes, but we’re doing the best we can.”
