Jelly Roll’s music career in the country music genre is exploding, but he first made a name for himself as a rapper. He recently welcomed a ’90s rap legend on stage with him. Keep reading for all the details.
Jelly Roll Gets Thanksgiving Prayer Answered
Jelly Roll is hot off multiple performances at the 2023 CMAs. He also nabbed the New Artist of the Year trophy. The “Save Me” singer followed up his epic night at the CMAs with two Grammy nominations, including Best New Artist and Best Country Duo/Group Performance for his collaboration with Lainey Wilson.
So, with all that going on, it’s understandable that Jelly Roll would forget an item on his ‘honey-do’ list. Unfortunately for the singer, it was a pretty big task. He was supposed to order dressing (or stuffing) for Thanksgiving dinner from his favorite Nashville restaurant.
However, by the time he remembered, he couldn’t reach anyone at the location. He took to social media to beg for help, asking his followers if they had any connection to the restaurant.
He offered to pay $1k to the restaurant for two pans of their famous dressing.
Being famous has its perks: His call for help went viral, and the restaurant heard Jelly Roll’s plea. Thanksgiving dinner crisis averted!

’90s Rap Legend Joins Jelly Roll On Stage
A few days before the holiday, the “Son of a Sinner” singer was one of the performers at The Big 98’s Friendsgiving concert in Nashville. Hosted at the Grand Ole Opry House, performers included Anne Wilson, Riley Green, and more.
Jelly Roll didn’t stick to his own music catalog during his set. He took the audience back in time and performed rapper Nelly’s 2002 chart-buster “Hot In Herre.”
He sang the first verse himself and then, to the audience’s surprise, brought Nelly out to perform the song with him.
The video was posted on TikTok, and according to Country Now, fans took to the comments to beg for Nelly and Jelly Roll to team up on a new song.

Fan Begs Jelly Roll To Reconsider Touring With Controversial Artists
Performing with Jelly Roll isn’t Nelly’s first foray into country music. In 2004, he paired with Tim McGraw for the hit song “Over and Over.” Nelly has also worked with other country artists, including Florida Georgia Line and Darius Rucker.
Next year the rapper will join Jason Aldean and Kid Rock on their Rock the Country tour. One fan on Twitter wasn’t happy about Nelly associating with the controversial artists. They shared a photo of the tour promo, asking how Nelly got “caught up in this hot mess of a concert?!”
How in the hell did Nelly get caught up in this hot mess of a concert?! Nelly- if you wanna do country concerts these folks ain’t the way to go. Their actions say everything about who they are. Do Garth Brooks, Chris Stapleton, Jelly Roll. Just sayin. pic.twitter.com/RABvFUMOak

The social media user went on to suggest Nelly team up with the likes of Garth Brooks or Jelly Roll instead.
