Dolly Parton got a lot of rock royalty on her new album, Rockstar. However, the biggest names might be the two surviving members of The Beatles, Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. In a recent interview promoting her album, Dolly admitted to how she got these rock legends on her album.

Here is what Dolly said about the collaboration and what she did to ensure they were there to sing “Let It Be” with her.

How Dolly Parton got The Beatles on her new album

The Beatles are back in the news lately as they have a new song out. The song, “Now and Then,” actually has all four Beatles on it. John Lennon’s voice track is from before his death and George Harrison’s guitar is from a recording in the 1990s. Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr got together and re-did their parts and magically created one more hit song for one of the world’s most iconic bands.

At the same time, Paul and Ringo also collaborated with Dolly Parton on her new album, Rockstar. This was an album that saw Dolly do all rock songs after her induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She also collaborated with a who’s who of rock icons on the songs, most of which were covers. This also included a Beatles song in “Let It Be.”

On this track, Dolly Parton collaborated with the two surviving members of The Beatles along with Peter Frampton and Mick Fleetwood. That is a lot of talent performing the classic Beatles song and Dolly said all it took was a “love letter.”

“I just sent them a love note through their managers, and I just said what I was doing,” Dolly told NPR. And I said, ‘I didn’t want to put you on the spot, but I’d love to have you sing with me on my rock album. And if you’re interested, call me at this number.” Dolly said that they all responded and said they would love to and she felt “humbled by that.”

“Let It Be” is only the second charted track so far

Dolly Parton’s Rockstar has been a critical success and it seems her fans can’t get enough of it. However, it hasn’t exactly set the world on fire when it comes to sales and charting. “Let It Be” is only the second song that hit the charts, peaking at 22nd on the Billboard digital charts. She also released the original single “World on Fire,” which hit fourth on the same charts.

On top of that, she has released “Magic Man” with Ann Wilson, “Bygones” with Rob Halford, “We Are the Champions/We Will Rock You,” “What’s Up” with Linda Perry, and “Wrecking Ball” with Miley Cyrus. The album itself has yet to chart in the United States. It has hit #2 in Scotland and #5 in the United Kingdom.
