Kacey Musgraves is learning you are never too old or too famous for your grandmother to set you straight when she believes it needs to be done. In true Southern fashion, the “Three Little Birds” singer got a good tongue-lashing from her grandmother. It was all due to the cover her the country music superstar’s album cover.

The Kacey Musgraves Deeper Well Cover

One of the covers of Deeper Well, the latest album from Kacey Musgraves has sparked some controversy. Well, at least in the Musgraves family. The cover that has upset Musgraves’ grandmother is a photo of the country music singer. It shows the “Dime Store Cowgirl” singer’s naked backside.

“I just randomly had this idea… Because it was a big, wide open green space. And I was like, ‘What if I was just really small?’” Musgraves said, explaining the photo for the album cover. “Like in the fetal position, sort of, into the earth… And it’s just sort of vulnerable and almost like rebirth, I guess.”

The artistic photo that is one of the two covers of the Deeper Well album was taken by Musgraves’ sister. It was part of a series of photos taken by Kacey Musgraves’ sister. Based on the response of her grandmother, it was the photo that should not have been used as an album cover.

Kacey Musgraves Is A Stripper?

Kacey’s Musgraves’ grandmother did not approve of this artistic album cover. She had a few choice words for her country music superstar granddaughter. This southern granny did not hold anything back.

“Kacey, you’re a singer, not a stripper!” her grandmother scolded.

This is the same woman who cried when Kacey Musgraves got her nose pierced so it is easy to imagine how the grandmother was feeling. It is understandable. There are probably other people who will not understand the artistic undertones of the Deeper Well album cover.

“Well, you know what? You can be both,” was Musgraves’ response to her grandmother’s reaction.

The Grandmother/Granddaughter Relationship

Kacey Musgraves and her grandmother, Barbara Musgraves, have a close relationship. Her grandmother attended the Grammy Awards with her granddaughter this year. She has even appeared on A Very Kacey Christmas which was a Christmas special starring Musgraves. This Christmas special was seen on Amazon Prime in 2016.

It is doubtful reminding Kacey she is a singer and not a stripper will change the relationship and the bond the grandmother shares with her granddaughter. More than likely, Musgraves understands the importance of having a grandmother who loves her and is concerned about her.
