Carrie Underwood Has Come A Long Way Since Her American Idol Start

Carrie Underwood was first introduced to a national audience when she competed on American Idol. She was the winner of Season 4 all the way back in 2005. Even back then, audiences recognized her star power. She may have not fully realized all of that potential until after winning her season, along with everything that came after, but the seeds for what she would become were already planted.

Carrie Underwood has gone on to become one of the biggest names in country music. Almost 20 years have passed since she first won her American Idol crown, and these days, she is certainly the queen of country music. She continues to sell out shows and pack stadiums, with no signs of slowing down.

When Carrie Underwood was first coming up, after her American Idol win, country pop was still a relatively new concept. The early 2000s saw the rise in popularity of bands like Lonestar, as well as major crossover hits like Lee Ann Womack’s I Hope You Dance.

Carrie Underwood came in at a time when the idea of country pop was just about to really take root, and she was certainly able to capitalize on that, especially when you consider what came around in subsequent years. Nowadays, you have the likes of Taylor Swift, Lady A, and more, who completely blur the line between country and pop, and yet, appeal to fans of both genres.

Carrie Underwood Gives Her Take On Current Country Music

Nowadays, country music is more versatile than it has ever been. In the early 2000s, it was groundbreaking for rapper Nelly to work with Tim McGraw on Over And Over. Today, you have things like Post Malone working on a country album, or Luke Combs singing a Fast Car duet with Tracy Chapman.

According to Carrie Underwood, she spoke on the current state of country music, saying: “There really is something for everybody now.” The way she sees it, she said: “I love that people like Post Malone and Beyonce, and Jelly Roll, and people like that are artists first and foremost. They kind of weave in and out of different genres of music, and I think that’s really cool.”

Depending on who you talk to, some might be bigger fans of older country, and they may scoff at everything going on currently within the genre. Wherever you fall on that spectrum, it’s clear Carrie Underwood is a fan of everything currently happening, and she certainly knows a thing or two about putting out hit songs.
