Loretta Lynn’s granddaughter Emmy Russell is among the contestants on Season 22 of American Idol. Despite her stunning voice, fans of the show had a lot to say about her wardrobe choices, as well as her singing habits. See her clap back at the haters.
Could Emmy Russell Win American Idol?
This season of American Idol kicked off in February with a few contestants from famous families. The name Juan Pablo Galavis may not mean much to viewers of the singing competition, but it is famous – or rather, infamous – among Bachelor Nation fans.
Juan Pablo was The Bachelor in 2014. He made waves for his explosive argument with contestant Clare Crawley. He often mentioned his young daughter, Camila.
Well, now Camila is all grown up and ready to make her mark in the music industry. She’s one of the hopefuls on this season of American Idol.
Another contestant has a strong connection to the Queen of Country Music herself. Emmy Russell is the granddaughter of country music icon Loretta Lynn.
Emmy’s family ties aren’t what’s keeping her in the competition, though. Her amazing voice has the judges and audience betting on her as this season’s winner.
Loretta Lynn’s Granddaughter Claps Back At Critics
So far, Emmy Russell has made it to the Top 24 on the popular singing competition. She took to her Instagram to thank fans for their support. But she also had a message for her haters.
She started the video with a quote, “He who has no opinion of his own but depends on the opinions and takes of others is a slave.” Showing that she inherited her grandmother’s feisty side, she addressed comments she saw online about her appearance.
During one of her American Idol performances, the singer wore jeans with holes in the knees and performed barefoot. That apparently didn’t sit well with some people who took to social media to complain.
But Emmy Russell isn’t paying heed to other people’s opinions. “It’s like when do you even ask yourself what do I like? What do I believe? God, what do you think?”

She added that opinions are “so subjective,” and she found it easy to laugh it off at first. However, the comments continued to wear her down until she read the above-mentioned quote.
“Opinions just do not mean that they are true,” she said. Emmy encouraged her fans not to “be a slave to another opinion.”
