If visiting Dollywood is on your bucket list, you better do it soon. An unexpected closure left fans wondering about the fate of the famous theme park. Keep reading for all the details on what’s going on with Dolly Parton’s entertainment venue.
Dollywood Shuts Down Unexpectedly
Tucked away in the heart of Tennessee’s Smoky Mountains lies a theme park like no other. Created by the one and only Dolly Parton, Dollywood is a celebration of Southern charm, country music, and good old-fashioned family fun. If you’re looking for a vacation spot that’s equal parts thrilling and wholesome, the theme park is the place to be.
Dolly Parton’s love for her hometown shines through in every aspect of Dollywood. From the moment you step through the gates, you’re enveloped in a warm, welcoming atmosphere that feels more like a family reunion than a crowded theme park. Dolly’s presence is everywhere, from the bronze statue of her at the entrance to the stories of her childhood that bring the park to life.
However, the theme park abruptly closed earlier this week, leaving park-goers fuming. The U.S. Sun reported that Dollywood didn’t offer refunds for the abrupt closure. One angry park-goer wrote, “I can’t believe Dolly Parton would let her park be unsafe, be closed and not refund money!!!!”
Is Dolly Parton’s Theme Park Closing For Good?
Dollywood is a place where roller coasters meet rockers, where bluegrass music fills the air, and where the warmth of the Smoky Mountains will make you feel right at home. But the sudden closing made some Dolly Parton fans concerned about the future of the theme park.
On this date in 1986, Dollywood opened to the public for the very first time 🎉

It has been a staple of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee since it opened in 1986. Is the theme park closing for good after 38 years?
Adventure lovers can rest easy knowing that Dollywood is NOT closing. The abrupt shuttering of operations on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, was a rare occurrence. Bad weather swept through the area.
The park closed in the middle of the day to keep staff and guests safe from the severe thunderstorms. The area was under a tornado watch. Deadly tornadoes did rip through Tennessee and its surrounding states, but Dollywood only suffered minimal damage.
PARK UPDATE: Due to severe thunderstorms approaching Pigeon Forge this afternoon and through the evening, Dollywood will close today (Wednesday, May 8) at 4 p.m. The park will reopen on Thursday, May 9 at 10 a.m.

For Dolly Parton, Dollywood is more than just a theme park. It’s a dream come true, a way to give back to the community she loves. The theme park may eventually close, but it won’t be any time soon. Some say Dollywood is a more popular tourist destination than Disney World!
