Morgan Wallen had a grand opening of his Nashville bar scheduled for Memorial Day weekend. But his past bad boy behavior came back to haunt him, forcing him to cancel and postpone the bar opening for a later date. What happened?
Morgan Wallen Cancels Nashville Bar Opening After Arrest
Morgan Wallen was arrested in April after allegedly tossing a chair off the roof of Eric Church’s bar in downtown Nashville. He has three pending felony charges of reckless endangerment. He was originally slated to face the music in court in May, but the hearing date has been changed. The arrest came just as the singer finally rehabbed his image following the 2021 scandal when he was caught on camera using a racial slur.
Unfortunately, the new legal trouble and his previous behavior have once again forced unexpected consequences on the popular country singer. He was set to open his Nashville bar over Memorial Day weekend. However, the Nashville City Council effectively canceled the opening and cited his past as a reason.
Us Weekly reported that the City Council denied the request to place a 20-foot neon “Morgan Wallen’s This Bar” sign outside the bar. “I don’t want to see a billboard up with the name of a person who’s throwing chairs off of balconies and who is saying racial slurs,” one Council member said.
Another added, “His comments are hateful. His actions are harmful.”
The country singer partnered with TC Restaurant Group to open the bar. The restaurant developer also operates other Nashville bars affiliated with country artists, including bars with Miranda Lambert, Lainey Wilson, and Jason Aldean. The TC Restaurant Group’s statement about the delayed bar opening didn’t mention Morgan Wallen’s past antics.
“When we open, we want This Bar to be an exceptional experience for guests. Unfortunately, the process requires more time, and we are not able to open and provide that experience this Memorial Day weekend.” – TC Restaurant Group.
A new grand opening date hasn’t been set.
Some Good News For The Singer
Morgan Wallen teased a new song with wanna-be country artist Post Malone in December 2024. It wasn’t well-received by fans at the time. However, “I Had Some Help” was officially released earlier this month, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. In fact, the song quickly shot to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 Charts.
Post Malone has officially entered his country era. He’s releasing a full album of country tunes this year and recently performed “I Had Some Help” at the 2024 ACM Awards, though he didn’t have any help from Morgan Wallen, who skipped the event. The multi-talented Posty performed a stunning duet with host Reba McEntire.
Maybe Post Malone will be the next artist to open a bar in downtown Nashville.
