Carrie Underwood Among Artists Honoring Toby Keith In TV Special
Toby Keith passed away nearly six months ago, but the music industry still mourns the legendary singer.
The legendary career of the singer included 42 Top 10 hits, 33 of those reaching No. 1. Add in inductions to the Country Music Hall of Fame, Songwriters Hall of Fame, and Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. He was also awarded with the National Medal of Arts and named a BMI Icon.
Mega-hits like “Should Have Been a Cowboy,” “Red Solo Cup,” “How Do You Like Me Now?!” and “Beer for My Horses” that have defined his career.
There have been several tributes to the singer already, including at the CMT Awards where Jason Aldean took the stage to perform “Should’ve Been A Cowboy.”Carrie Underwood performed the song – which was Toby Keith’s first big hit – in April during an appearance at the Grand Ole Opry.
She will take part in the upcoming Toby Keith: American Icon special. According to Variety, the tribute airs on NBC on August 28th and features Carrie Underwood, Jelly Roll, Lainey Wilson, and more country artists.
The American Idol winner will likely stay true to Toby Keith’s original recording.
