Lainey Wilson is a household name but her career in country music didn’t happen overnight. She hustled to get her career off the ground, even if it meant breaking the law. Keep reading for all the details.

Lainey Wilson Began Performing At A Young Age

Lainey Wilson is now officially a member of the Grand Ole Opry. She was inducted in June by legendary country crooners, and married couple, Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood.

She’s often told the story of visiting the iconic Nashville landmark with her family when she was nine. She knew even then that she wanted to be a country singer and didn’t let anything get in her way. Lainey Wilson famously moved to Nashville after high school and lived in her car as she waited for her career to get off the ground.

After years of hustling, she finally broke into the mainstream in 2021 with the help of her music featuring on Yellowstone. She had a minor role in the popular Paramount show. But years before fame came calling, Lainey Wilson had an unconventional way to gain stage experience.

She was performed locally as a Hannah Montana impersonator at parties.

How She Broke Law To Boost Career

Hannah Montana was a popular tween show that aired on Disney for four seasons. It starred Miley Cyrus as regular teen, Miley Stewart, who was secretly a pop star named Hannah Montana. Billy Ray Cyrus played his real-life daughter’s father on the show.

According to Lainey Wilson, she got made fun of a lot from her peers for impersonating the fictional character. However, she didn’t let them get to her and continued to get to the gigs by any means possible, even if that meant breaking the law.

Whiskey Riff recapped an interview Lainey Wilson recently did with Apple Music to promote her new album. She revealed that she impersonated Hannah Montana from 8th grade until 12 grade.

Her parents often took her to the gigs, but sometimes they weren’t available. So, despite being underage, Lainey Wilson hopped in the car and drove herself.

“Sorry, mom and daddy, but there were times when I was 14, 15, I was driving around without a license to get to the birthday party. You know what I’m saying? People made fun of me… That’s another reason why I’d come back home and I’d write a song.”

But she credited the haters as the reason for her success.“If I had not been Hannah Montana and not been hurt by some of the things that people said to me or behind my back or whatever, I don’t know if I would’ve been inspired to write as much music.”
