Country music icon Willie Nelson released his 76th solo album, Last Leaf On The Tree, this week. The singer scares fans this summer when he missed several shows due to unnamed health issues. The legendary musician shared an update on how he’s doing now. Keep reading for all the details.
Willie Nelson Cancels Shows Amid Health Troubles
Willie Nelson began his Outlaw Music Festival tour in 2016. The star-studded festival was a huge draw for fans in 2024, with headliners Bob Dylan, John Mellencamp, and more. Unfortunately for some fans, Willie Nelson was unable to perform at a handful of dates over the summer. His team didn’t give a reason except to say that he was having some health issues. At 91, that’s not a surprise, but fans were terrified the worst would happen.
But Willie Nelson just released another new album after releasing his 75th earlier this year. He took the stage in Houston, Texas, last month to perform at a campaign rally for Presidential candidate Kamala Harris. He performed two of his most popular songs: “On the Road Again” and “Mama Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys.” Pop star Beyoncé attended the rally to endorse Harris, but didn’t perform. How He’s Doing Now
Willie Nelson spoke to the Associated Press ahead of his album release. He was asked about his health and his response is sure to put fans’ minds at ease. Despite rumors of ill health, he said that he doesn’t “feel bad” physically.
“I take pretty good care of myself. And I feel like I’m in pretty good shape physically. Mentally? That’s another story,” he added.
Why He’s Not Worried About Dying
Like the legendary Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson has no intention of retiring. He’s also not afraid of dying. He told the outlet that it was the last thing on his mind.
“I’m not worried about it…I don’t have any reason to worry about dying. But I don’t know anybody who’s lived forever.”
The country music industry lost one of the greats when Kris Kristofferson passed away last month. Willie Nelson had nothing but praise for his contemporary.

“Kris was a great friend of mine. And, you know, we just kind of had a lot of fun together and made a lot of music together — videos, movies. I hated to lose him. That was a sad time,” the “Always on My Mind” singer said.
