Country Singer Diagnosed With Rare Nerve Disorder
Country music legend Alan Jackson has been quietly battling Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. He first revealed the disease to the public in 2021, but had actually been dealing with this inherited neurological disorder for many years before sharing his diagnosis with fans.
CMT disease, as it’s commonly known, affects the peripheral nerves connecting the brain and spinal cord to the rest of the body. The condition is particularly challenging for the performer known for his huge stage presence.
“There’s no cure for it,” Jackson shared on TODAY.
Alan Jackson Embarks On Final Tour
The “It’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere” singer was the victim of an internet death hoax in 2023. Despite his shocking diagnosis, Alan Jackson is still alive and as well as can be expected.
While he plans to keep making music, he revealed last year that he’s done touring. After thirty years on the road, he said he’s ready to stay at home and spend more time with his family. “But my fans always show up to have a good time, and I’m going to give them the best show I can for this Last Call,” he said in a statement to PEOPLE magazine at the time.
The Last Call: One More for the Road tour kicked off in August 2024 and wraps up in May 2025.
Shares Sweet Moment With Wife For Special Occasion
Alan Jackson often pays tribute to his fellow musicians. But his wife, Denise, was in the spotlight during a recent tour stop. The singer’s farewell tour made one last appearance in Texas earlier this week.
When the band began playing “Remember When,” the singer motioned off stage for his wife to join him. The couple sweetly danced on stage for part of the song, which he wrote for her. She left the stage after a short dance so he could finish performing the song. One fan in attendance shared the video on social media.

Alan Jackson met his wife when they were in high school. They married in 1979 and have been together ever since. He paid tribute to her while accepting the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2022 CMA Awards.
“We started out as teenagers… I’m probably not always the easiest person to love, but she’s been there and helped me through hard times. And we’ve shared great times. The good, the bad, the happy, and the sad, we’ve survived a lot. I just want to thank her because she’s held me up all these years and she’s my best friend. And she gave me a wonderful family over there,” Alan Jackson while accepting the award.
