CMA Foundation names Ashley McBryde as First Artist Ambassador of United Voices for Music Education
The Country Music Association does much more than celebrate itself, its genre, and its members and voters in annual soirées like the one slated for November 11 this year. Ashley McBryde is once more among the nominees for Female Vocalist of the Year, but her new role in partnership with the CMA Foundation likely will be far more lasting and meaningful than any trophy in her collection.
Heart-to-heart sharing with Ashley McBryde, socially-distanced
United Voices for Music Education (UVME) is a just-launched initiative of The CMA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Country Music Association. As the inaugural Artist Ambassador for the program, Ashley McBryde will promote music education by example and inspiration through the schools, performances, and mentoring to ensure that music education is available and continuing in the lives of young artists. One of the unique ways that Ashley will team with music educators is in providing band-specific video lesson plans. The star known for her heartfelt honesty will also hold virtual meetings with music educators to share the challenges they face. McBryde will also share her own stories of how music education mattered to her country music career.
Becoming an ambassador is truly a highlight for Ashley McBryde
“I am so excited to be the CMA Foundation’s first UVME Artist Ambassador,” Ashley McBryde gushed in the best way. She further elaborated on how music education has “made an enormous impact on the musician and the writer I am today.”
Ashley McBryde describes the honor as “a career highlight,” even though she deemed her role as a small part in the mission of allowing music education to engage and thrive between students and music educators “in these unprecedented times.”
A mentor with heart matters
A positive and caring teacher is a gift, and Ashley McBryde understands that more deeply than many artists. A high school teacher degraded her and dashed her dreams in front of the class. The instructor advised Ashley to abandon hope for a musical career.. Of course, she took those words of a “Girl Going Nowhere,” and made them the title of her first album, and the rest is history now.
Ashley McBryde also understands what it is to never quite please a parent. She started playing guitar on her father’s strings. He wanted his daughter to become a doctor, no matter how desperately she yearned to have an audience sing the words of her songs. Even after her success, he still begged her to go to medical school. Ashley noted that her father, now coping with a degenerative disease, says: “I’m proud for you” regarding her success, but not, “I’m proud of you.” The love is there between father and daughter. She sings her song, “Bible and a .44” in tribute to him, and many fans can’t stop the tears. Still, she is guarded and “careful” about what she shares with her dad.
Her more recent songs, like “Hang in There Girl” and “Never Will,” the title song of her latest album, are messages of affirmation to herself. In that same spirit, Ashley McBryde can encourage, guide, and care for those giving and receiving music education in powerful ways that can only come from her own experience. As with her songs, her authenticity leaves imprints on countless hearts.
November will be a busy month for Ashley McBryde
Tiffany Kerns, the executive director of the CMA Foundation, exuded that the organization is “thrilled” to have Ashley McBryde as its ambassador and partner. Kerns praised that McBryde’s “passion for music is evident in her career” and that her “enthusiasm for music is unmatched.”
Throughout November, Ashley McBryde will be sharing her artistic wisdom, intuition, and lesson planning with music educators and students. The shared resources will then be made available for students to access nationwide. Music is a gift that never stops giving, and the songs resonate within open hearts forever. This will be a month that Ashley McBryde and so many who share the gift of music will never forget.
