By now, no one takes notice of Dolly Parton’s detractors. Least of all, the country music queen and global philanthropist herself– she’s too busy spreading light and goodness to lend any time to negativity. Already, this fall is one of the busiest ever for the It’s Almost Too Early For Christmas artist. Dolly more than adores the holiday season, and now, thanks to Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos, she can stuff more lifelong delights and essentials into lives than Santa Claus holds in his bag of goodies.

A spectacular amount for Dolly Parton to put to good use

In a rare sit-down interview, the mogul worth $124 billion, and his partner, Lauren Sanchez, probe into the reasons for choosing Dolly Parton as the recipient of the Courage and Civility Award. Certainly, the choice and consideration went far beyond bank accounts or financial fitness. Basically, it all came down to Parton’s gigantic heart.

So, what makes Dolly Parton the perfect candidate to donate $100 million to charity?

“Well, look at what she’s done, and how she’s led her life,” Bezos responds. “She’s a unifier,” the entrepreneur insists, declaring that her tools in any deal are “civility and kindness.”

“When you think of Dolly,” everyone smiles,” Sanchez interjects. “All she wants to do is bring light into other people’s world– that’s all.” As The Guardian, Today, and Yahoo all verify, “She gives with her heart,” the couple reiterate.

Dolly embraces gratitude and surprise

Clearly, the 58-year-old and Sanchez demonstrated complete agreement in their comments that Dolly Parton embodies both courage and civility in living, breathing, and reading form.

Convincingly, Bezos praises how  “what she’s done for kids, for illiteracy, and so many other things– is just incredible,” Jeff Bezos stressed alongside Lauren Sanchez from his pre-recorded opening of the presentation to Dolly Parton, People per MSN relates.

Of course, the man with the biggest pockets at the soirée referred to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Like every giving endeavor Dolly creates, the initiative is rooted in love.

Throughout her life, Dolly Parton credits her father, Robert Lee Parton, as “the smartest man I ever knew. The patriarch of the family also knew how to strike a business deal for the survival of his family, and young Dolly Rebecca soaked in every skill she witnessed at work. Nonetheless, the man who imparted her business savvy felt paralyzed by the stigma of shame that shrouds nonreaders. He never brought himself through the doors of an adult literacy classroom.

Dolly Parton intimately knew that effective literacy learning begins with parents and children in the home. From the outset, the country music queen endeared herself to preschool children around the globe. She delivered books addressed to each child in her groundbreaking program. Those gifts of reading sparked literacy as a family, bonding and building reading and connection between parents and children simultaneously.

To date, the Imagination Library hit the milestone of placing over 1 million books in the hands of eager readers and the effort is “one of the most meaningful parts of my life” to Dolly Parton, a.k.a. “The Book Lady.”

Jeff Bezos gets a playful double-take from Dolly

“Did you say 100 million dollars?” Dolly Parton playfully questions the benefactor. Indeed, neither the amount nor the special night was a dream. In fact, it means a world of new giving for the global favorite blonde philanthropist.

In her simple, straightforward acceptance remarks, Dolly Parton admonishes, “When people are in a position to help, you should help,” the ambassador of good directed at the cheering, yet small, crowd. “I’ve always said that I try to put my money where my heart is, and I think you do the same thing.”

In parting, Dolly pledged: “I’m going to try my best to do good things with the money,” concluding with a warm “Thank you, Jeff.”
