Kelly Clarkson Forced To Sing As Divorce Finalized

When Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock filed for divorce after seven years of marriage, it was not easy at all. He had become her manager plus he was the stepson of her mentor, Reba McEntire. There were a lot of factors at play that made this split very difficult. Add on to it that they share two children who they both adore. Of course, the show had to go on and Kelly had her hands filled with projects. Not only is she a performer but she is an occasional coach on The Voice.

Additionally, she hosts her own widely successful talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show which is now moving from California to NYC. This is a fresh beginning for her and her kids as well as those on her show. However, the singer is recalling a time when she had to do something she was not comfortable with. More so, it happened at the most inopportune time. According to yahoo!, Kelly opened up to Andy Cohen during the SiriusXM Town Hall. She shared the details of the day that her divorce was finalized and what she was forced to do right before.

Last year at the ACMs, they were honoring Dolly Parton and Kelly was given “I Will Always Love You.” Of course, she knew how high the bar was when it came to the iconic song so she did not want to perform it. However, she did not have a choice in the matter so the show had to go on. Amid the pressure of the performance, Kelly Clarkson got more news she was not ready for. As she was getting ready to actually sing, she learned her divorce was final.

Looking To Dolly

When Kelly Clarkson learned this news, she was just getting ready to go on stage. She recalled looking over at the woman of the hour, Dolly Parton, and knowing what just transpired. “I’m looking at Dolly Parton and I’m like, I had just gotten my text of like, ‘Hey your divorce is final, like you’ve both signed.’ Like, right before getting on a stage to sing “I Will Always Love You.” I was like, ‘Screw you, universe.’ That’s the timing?” she shared with Andy Cohen. Fortunately, she nailed the performance and it even led to Chris Stapleton texting her to compliment the performance. She has held on to that moment for a very long time.
