Country music superstar Shania Twain has opened up about her feelings towards her ex-husband Robert “Mutt” Lange after his affair with her best friend ended their marriage. Keep reading to see where the former couple stands now.
Cheating Scandal Ruined Shania Twain’s Marriage
It almost writes like a country song – husband caught cheating with wife’s best friend. But country superstar Shania Twain had to live through it in real life. She had married famed producer Robert “Mutt” Lange in 1993. However, their relationship went beyond romance.
They also shared a business relationship, and he produced some of her biggest hits and multiple albums. However, their business and personal relationship imploded in 2008 when he was caught cheating on her with her best friend, Marie-Anne Thiébaud. He never publicly admitted to the affair, but he is still dating Shania Twain’s former bestie.
And the story gets even soapier. Marie-Anne Thiébaud’s husband, Frédéric, was the one who told the singer about the affair. They ended up bonding over their former spouses’ dalliance. She told talk show host Ellen DeGeneres in 2011 that they became “very, very good friends.”
Friendship turned into romance, and Shania Twain married Frédéric Thiébaud in 2011.
Shania Twain Reveals True Feelings Over Ex-Husband’s Affair
Over 15 years after the scandalous end of her marriage, Shania Twain shared her true feelings about her ex-husband’s affair. She was on the Great Company With Jamie Laing podcast recently and revealed where she stands with the music producer now.
She said that she doesn’t hate her ex over the affair. In fact, it seems that she’s forgiven him for his role in the end of their marriage. “Forgiveness is in the family of letting go,” the singer said. “But forgiveness, more specifically for me anyway, is not about forgetting necessarily. It’s about understanding the other person, and that might mean that they’re wrong.”
“So sad for him that he made such a great mistake that he has to live with. And I don’t know what that is, but … that’s not my weight,” Twain continued.
Letting go of the anger has allowed her to co-parent the son she shares with her ex-husband.
Perhaps part of the reason she was able to forgive her ex is because it led to better things for her. According to Us Weekly, the “That Don’t Impress Me Much” singer believes, “Everyone gets what they deserve. … I got what I deserve — I got the greatest man on the planet.”
