Blake Shelton was more than Miranda Lambert’s husband. The two collaborated on multiple songs during their relationship. He helped co-write some of her biggest hits. So, when it came time to write the tracks for her new album, Postcards from Texas, was she inspired by the split? Keep reading to find out what sources close to Miranda Lambert said about it.
Miranda & Blake: The Way They Were
Sparks flew for Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert the first time they shared the stage. The two performed a duet at CMT’s Greatest Duets in 2005. They were both in relationships at the time: Shelton was married to Kaynette Williams and Lambert was engaged to Jeff Allan McManus.
The country stars went public in 2007 after ending their respective relationships. Blake Shelton co-wrote several songs on Lambert’s 2009 album Revolution. He proposed in 2010 and they married in 2011. She took home Song of the Year at the 2012 CMAs for her hit song “Over You,” which Shelton co-wrote and was inspired by his brother’s death.
But by 2015, the marriage was over. They announced their divorce the same day that it was finalized. Blake Shelton moved on with Gwen Stefani, marrying the No Doubt singer in 2021. Lambert married retired NYPD officer Brendan McLoughlin in 2019 after just a few months of dating.
Miranda Lambert’s New Album Inspired By Blake Shelton Split?
Miranda Lambert dumped her label of 20 years in 2023. She released her first album with her new label in September. Some fans thought the songs on Postcards from Texas were about her husband, Brendan. The song “Alimony” hints at a cheating husband. Brendan was caught cozying up to another woman over the summer.
But someone close to Miranda Lambert spilled to In Touch Weekly that Miranda Lambert still draws from her relationship with Blake Shelton for inspiration. The insider told the outlet, “Miranda is older and wiser now and she no longer lays all the blame at Blake’s feet, Now it still gives her fodder for writing hit songs!”
In Touch used the lyrics to Miranda’s new song “Run” as an example. “Oh this freedom I found, babe, sure wasn’t free / I owe you a lifetime of apologies / I’m tellin’ the truth now / I loved you so much / I’m sorry for lyin’ about who I was.”
While she may be inspired by her former relationship, Miranda Lambert no longer needs Blake Shelton to help write her songs. Her current husband got a co-writing credit on the song “Dammit Randy.”
