It’s definitely been a busy week in the headlines for Garth Brooks. Undoubtedly, most of the news stems from the viral press conference Garth held on Wednesday, July 29th.

It was at this time that “The Dance” singer made the announcement that he is “permanently removing himself from consideration in the CMA Awards Entertainer of the Year category.” According to Hudson Valley CountryGarth had an explanation behind this decision. He cites his controversial win in 2019 as his reason for the permanent withdrawal. Fans may remember that he beat out Eric Church, Chris Stapleton, Carrie Underwood, and Keith Urban for the title of Entertainer of the Year.

Garth Brooks press conference recap

During his press conference, he goes on to speak briefly about the backlash he received after the 2019 Entertainer of the Year award. “You pretty much saw what happened after the CMAs, all the way through the new year. It got a little — it wasn’t fun, let’s put it that way,” he reminisces. Ultimately, Garth Brooks has won the honor in 1991, 1992, 1997, 1998, 2016, 2017, and 2019. That’s a shocking seven times. Brooks expounds on his reasoning behind the withdrawal from the award. “The last thing I want to do is seem ungrateful,” he says. “It’s time for somebody else to hold that
award…’cause they’re all out there busting their butts,” he continues.

Remarkably, the idea to permanently withdraw from the category of CMA Entertainer of the Year was inspired by longtime friend, Steve Wariner.  Fans may recognize the name as he collaborates with Garth on the track, “Longneck Bottle.” Wariner writes, “If you’ve ever seen @garthbrooks live, you know why he consistently wins Entertainer of the year. There is no one as big as Garth, but more importantly, there is no one as kind.”

Friends and family respond to Garth’s withdrawal from consideration for Entertainer of the year

Things get feisty when Garth’s “Dive Bar” cohort Blake Shelton chimes in.  “Agreed Steve… He is Garth Brooks. GARTH BROOKS!!! I don’t give a s–t what anyone says. ANYONE. Entertainer of the century” tweets Shelton in response to Wariner.  The Voice coach is absolutely on to something here.

Heartwarmingly, Garth Brooks’ wife, and fellow Country music phenom, Trisha Yearwood responds to the friends. “I love you boys!! @blakeshelton @stevewariner Thanks for always having my cowboy’s back!” This response definitely gives off #relationshipgoals vibes. Consequently, Garth and Trisha have grown together throughout the coronavirus quarantine. For example, is their recent scare and how they grew together as parents. Garth’s youngest daughter and fellow Country music singer, Allie Colleen, tests positive for COVID-19.

Luckily for fans, Garth Brooks routinely updates his fans on Studio G. Given all the news from his last press conference, there are sure to be some major updates soon. Namely, the release date for his latest studio album, Fun. Hopefully, this will also include details about his stadium concert tour.
