The movie Titanic was a mega-hit in the late 1990s. Starring Leo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, the flick earned over 1 billion worldwide. But it turns out that a MAJOR country music star was originally supposed to appear in the film.
Reba McEntire Was Supposed to Play Molly Brown in Titanic
While many of the characters in the hit movie were fictional, some of them were actually real people. Molly Brown was an American socialite who survived the 1912 sinking of the Titanic. In the 1997 movie, actress Kathy Bates took on the formidable role.
However, speaking to CMT recently, Reba McEntire confirmed that she originally had the role of Molly Brown. Confirming the rumor, the singer said,, “Rumor has it that I was originally cast as ‘The Unsinkable Molly Brown’ in the movie Titanic.”
However, the movie’s director, James Cameron, had to change the filming dates for the movie. As a result, Reba McEntire had to drop out and the role went to the Oscar-winning actress. The “Fancy” singer said it was “impossible” to do both the movie and the tour that was already scheduled for that time period.
Who Did Linda Davis Replace on ‘Does He Love You” Duet?
During her chat with CMT, Reba McEntire listed other “rumors” that are true. One rumor is that country singer Linda Davis wasn’t her first choice to sing on “Does He Love You.” True! Former The Judds member Wynonna Judd was originally floated as the other voice on the duet. However, it “didn’t work out.”
But it was a happy accident that Linda Davis was ultimately on the song. According to Reba, Linda Davis came into the studio as a vocal stand-in until they could find someone to do the duet. But the song worked so well with Linda Davis’ voice that Reba and her producer, Tony Brown, gave her the duet.
It worked out well for both Reba and Linda Davis. Reba said, “We won a Grammy with it and toured with [the song.]”
Since that time, Reba has sung the song with everyone from Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson.
Reba McEntire Keeping Busy in 2020 – New Man, New Series and More!
Despite being in the music industry since the 80s, Reba McEntire is still at the top of her game! She didn’t let the coronavirus quarantine her stop her productivity. She recently released a podcast, Living & Learning With Reba McEntire.
On an episode earlier this month, the “You Lie” singer revealed that she’s been dating someone new since before the quarantine. Reba McEntire’s new man is CSI Miami actor Rex Linn.
In November, Reba McEntire will join Darius Rucker as the co-host for the CMA awards, per Deadline.
