A 42-year-old country artist, Brett Young, recently dropped a new album. With this new music, Brett also covered one of Tim McGraw’s iconic songs.

Brett Young’s New Album

Brett Young’s latest album, titled “Across The Sheets,” was released on August 4th, 2023. Though Brett has been on tour with Sam Hunt for his “Summer On The Outskirts Tour,” he still found the time to share his new work. Brett Young also announced an upcoming tour that he is calling “Dance With You.” The tour is set to take place in September and October 2023, after Sam Hunt’s tour ends in early September. Young’s new album has eight songs, seven of them being original pieces and the final song being a cover. The titles are as follows: Dance With You, Let Go Too Soon, Back To Jesus, Uncomfortable, Love Goes On, I Did This To Me, You Ain’t Here To Kiss Me, and Don’t Take The Girl. All the songs are available for listening on most music streaming services.

The final song on that roster is the cover of the song that changed Brett’s life, “Don’t Take The Girl.” With that pressure, Young was terrified that he would not be able to sing the song correctly or do it justice. Luckily, the reactions have been nothing but positive.

Brett Young’s Introduction Into Country

Brett Young attributes his love for country music to Tim McGraw and his 1194 single, “Don’t Take The Girl.” In an interview with People, Brett goes into his past and what led up to his love for country music. He states that growing up in Orange County, California, only one radio station played country music. Brett’s older sister, Shawna, could not stand the genre As a typical younger brother, whenever Brett had the chance to control the radio, he would play that country station just to annoy her. On one of those days, a Tim McGraw single played that changed Brett’s life.

After hearing “Don’t Take This Girl,” Brett says that he immediately fell in love with country music and has been a fan ever since. “I fell in love with the songwriting, the storytelling. All of it. That was the end of it for me,” he stated. That song came out when Young was 13 years old, 29 years later, and he is living a life few could achieve.

Tim McGraw’s Response To The Cover

Despite reservations and nerves, Brett Young sent Tim McGraw the cover. Tim responds, “He sings his butt off. Great work.” Brett says that is good enough for him, but he hopes to one day work alongside Tim for a performance. However, Young says, “I think the only way to get that done is to do something that he’s excited about doing with me, so I will strive to either write that song or find that song.”
