Is Dolly Parton taking sides in the royal feud between William, Harry, and their respective wives? The country music icon reportedly rejects Princess Kate’s advances. Keep reading for all the juicy details!

Dolly Parton Leaving Country Music for Rock N Roll?

Dolly Parton has been a mainstay in country music since the 1970s with hits like “Jolene” and “I Will Always Love You.” In 1980, she took on her first acting role, co-starring alongside Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda in the movie 9 to 5. The movie is still beloved over 40 years later, partly due to Parton’s catchy song that shares its name with the movie title.

However, acting has always been just a side project for Dolly Parton, with her country music as her first love. But after her surprise induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2022, she decided to unleash her inner rock star.

Her album, aptly titled Rockstar, won’t hit stores until November 17, 2023, but several singles have been released in anticipation. Dolly Parton performed the first single, “World on Fire,” at this year’s Academy of Country Music Awards. She wrote the song herself, and it’s one of the few on the upcoming album that doesn’t feature a famous musician.

Or musicians, plural. Dolly Parton takes on the Beatles’ song “Let It Be” with several recognizable names (and voices.) Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, the last two surviving members of the iconic group, join Parton on the Rockstar track. And that’s not all.  The song features Peter Frampton on guitar and Mick Fleetwood playing percussion.

Dolly Parton’s rerecording of “Let It Be” dropped on August 18, but fans will have to wait three more months for the full album.

Dolly Parton Rejects Princess Kate’s Advances

Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr have both been honored with knighthood by the British monarchy. But Dolly Parton had her chance to get closer to the royal family and turned it down. Why did she reject Princess Kate?

With a new album coming out, Dolly Parton is on a huge promotional tour. That tour took her to the U.K., but she skipped out on tea with the new Princess of Wales.

During an interview with BBC Radio 2, Parton quipped that she turned down the invitation because it wouldn’t help her sell records.

“She wasn’t going to promote my rock album, so I had to say no,” – Dolly Parton, BBC Radio 2.

But it turns out Dolly was just being cheeky. She explained the real reason she rejected the invitation – she simply didn’t have time.

According to People, Dolly Parton’s team had “all this stuff set up,” leaving her no time for tea with Princess Kate. However, she did say it would be “great” to do that in the future when she’s not as busy.

The outlet notes that Dolly Parton performed at Queen Elizabeth’s Silver Jubilee in 1977.

Dolly Parton’s Rockstar album will be available to purchase on November 17. Are you excited for her to take on rock music? Let us know in the comments below, and check back with Country Music Alley for all the latest and greatest country music news.
