For Lainey Wilson, her love for country music started at a young age. At nine, she visited the Grand Ole Opry with her parents, who were fans of singers like Buck Ownes. The singer recalled growing up around such music in a town of just 250 people. She said, “We lived the words to those songs.” Her dream became a reality in 2014 when she released her first album.

Now, nearly a decade later, the country singer landed a role on the hit show Yellowstone and won the New Female Artist of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards. And showing that the sky is the limit, Wilson recently set a new record that is one for the history books.

Released in 2022 on the Bell Bottom Country album, “Watermelon Moonshine” resonated with listeners as Lainey Wilson remembered lost loves and sweet drinks. “Drinkin’ watermelon moonshine / Cut the burn with a little lime / Parkin’ back in them kudzu vines / I was his and every bit of that boy was mine / Too young to know what love was / But we werе learnin’ on a sweet buzz / There’s never nothin’ like the first time / And mine’s always gonna taste like / Watermelon moonshine.”

Lainey Wilson Sets Record

Discussing the influence behind the song, Lainey Wilson remarked, “This song is about the young, wild, crazy love that we all hope to experience. From locking eyes for the first time, to playing spin the bottle with an Ole Smoky mason jar, to being too crazy about each other to tame it, I am so happy with how Rachel Lynn Matthews and Sam Sherrod brought the vision to life through their portrayal of their innocently passionate characters.”

Lainey Wilson earned her fifth number-one hit on Billboard Country Airplay chat with “Watermelon Moonshine.” Chris Owens, a radio insider, pointed out the importance of her recent milestone. It only took 18 weeks for “Watermelon Moonshine” to hit the number one spot. Wilson now holds the record for the fastest time for a female artist to hit number one. Before Wilson, the record belonged to Carrie Underwood’s 2016 “Church Bells.”

Collaborating With Jelly Roll

Continuing to dominate the stage and charts, Lainey Wilson’s “Save Me” currently sits in the Top 20 on the charts. The song, which features Jelly Roll, landed them a win at the People’s Choice Country Awards. Accepting the award, the singer took time to mention Jelly Roll, who was absent. “Man, I wish he was here. I really wish he was here. I have gotten to know Jelly over the last few years. Actually, back in 2013 I think he was doing a music video with Uncle Kracker, and they were paying folks about $100 to go be extras in the music video, and I was a drunk girl passed out on the ground. I never got my $100, but…”
