Included in Ashley McBrydes’s collaborative album: Lindeville, she states, “Small town women ain’t built to get along,” but, Kelly Clarkson‘s rangy, powerful voice fits perfectly on “Bonfire at Tina’s.”
Kelly chose “Bonfire at Tina’s” as her latest cover for the “Kellyoke” segment of her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show the superstar sticks as close to the song’s original version as she can in the production of her version. She puts the focus on the song’s melody and equally soaring message to the crowd as the camera shows a zoomed-in shot of her face.
“Bonfire at Tina’s” was a group effort originally including, Caylee Hammock, Pillbox Patti, and Brandy Clark, in McBryde’s version. Clarkson didn’t have the benefit of having three very talented artists backing her on stage, but, she kept her spirits up for the collaboration with the back-up vocalists from her band members singing with her, in a call-and-response style.
New Album In 2022
McBryde’s Lindeville album dropped in 2022. The concept project follows the characters of the fictional small town of Lindeville. “Bonfire at Tina’s”, specifically, follows a group of women who put aside their gripes and gossip about one another for the cathartic ritual of coming together. Thus, unburdening themselves of their numerous problems in money, life, and love.
While Clarkson frequently picks songs from the country format to cover in her “Kellyoke” segment. Her previous choices include but aren’t limited to, Brandi Carlile’s “The Story,” Shania Twain’s “Any Man of Mine,” Deana Carter’s “Strawberry Wine,” and Tammy Wynette’s “Stand By Your Man.”

Numerous Covers Prove Kelly Is a Country Queen
Although Kelly Clarkson has never released a full country project, she is still royalty to the country music community. From her twangiest Kellyoke covers to her collaborations with two of the hottest modern-day acts, here are some of her best performances, “The Story,” “Any Man of Mine,” “Walkaway Joe,” “Stand By Your Man,” Strawberry Wine,” “Blown Away,” “Girl Crush,” and many more.
While “You’re Drunk, Go Home” (with Kelsea Ballerina and Carly Pearce) is not necessarily a cover, Clarkson answered a call from Kelsea to join her and Carly for an epic trio moment, in September 2022. The trio would duet together for Ballerini’s album, Subject to Change. As you’d expect, the three vocalists teamed up in the studio as one great powerhouse and it was rafter-raising. “You’re Drunk, Go Home,” is a sassy, twangy song written to a guy who’s shooting his shot after drinking too many beers at a bar.

We give props to Clarkson for picking a great Shania Twain song that isn’t “Man! I feel Like a Woman.’ This signature song by Twain is great, but Kelly’s version of “Any Man of Mine” allows her to put her country stripes front and center. As she sings the enthusiastic whoops she lets out, she has her fiddle player follow her around. Clarkson’s cover of “Any Man of Mine” is truly pitch-perfect, and true country.
